Calm down. And try these quick tips for common emergencies.

Burst pipe? Turn off your water toby, then turn on an outside hose to drain the water out of your pipes.

Don’t know where your water toby is? It’s a good idea to find your water toby and figure out how to turn it off before anything dramatic happens. Wellington Water provides some simple advice.

No hot water? Check your switchboard for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker. If you find one, maybe you just had a power surge.

• If you reset the circuit breaker and everything seems fine, great.
• If the circuit breaker pops straight back out again you know there’s a problem. Give us a call.
• If the system is working but it seems different or you’re feeling unsure, give us a call too. We may recommend that you get an electrician round to check things out.
• If the fuse keeps on blowing, don’t ignore it. Something’s going on and you don’t know what could happen next. Get an electrician round, pronto.

Blocked toilet? If you have more than one toilet in your house, give the toilet that’s still working a flush or two. If you’re lucky, this downstream flush may suck the blockage out of the other toilet.

Blocked sewer? It’s easier for us to clear your blockage if you know where your drain inspection openings are.

If you can have a copy of Council or ‘as built’ drainage plans onsite, we’ll check these when we arrive to clear the blockage. We can access Council plans online, but any extra information you can give us is helpful.
